Definition
空降 literally means 'to drop from the sky' or 'to land from the air', used for military airdrops, rescue supplies, etc. It also has a common figurative meaning: when a person (especially a manager or official) is suddenly appointed from outside an organization, bypassing internal promotion — like being 'parachuted in'. You'll hear it in business and government contexts: 空降领导 ('a leader parachuted in from outside').
