Definition
算计 (suàn jì) means 'to calculate, reckon' but carries a strong sense of self-interested or strategic calculation — often with a negative connotation of scheming or plotting against someone. Unlike neutral 计算 (jì suàn, 'to compute') or 估计 (gū jì, 'to estimate'), 算计 implies personal gain or deception. It is also more colloquial than 谋划 (móu huà, 'to plot strategically').
