Definition
计 (jì) means 'to calculate' — less common than everyday 算 suàn or formal 计算 jì suàn — and also 'a plan, scheme' (neutral, unlike 诡计 guǐ jì 'deceptive trick'). As a noun suffix it often means 'meter, gauge' (温度计 thermometer), contrasting with 仪表 yí biǎo which refers to the whole instrument or appearance.
