Definition
置信 is a formal verb meaning 'to believe' or 'to trust'. It is rarely used in everyday conversation; instead, it appears mostly in literary or journalistic contexts, especially in the negative construction 难以置信 (unbelievable, literally 'difficult to believe') or in phrases like 无可置信 (not to be believed). You should NOT use 置信 as a direct replacement for the more common 相信 in casual speech.
