能干 (néng gàn) is the standard adjective for 'capable; competent,' used to describe a person's ability in a job or task. It is more formal and specific than 行 (xíng) 'OK/capable' in casual speech, and less informal than 棒 (bàng) 'awesome.' Unlike the verb 胜任 (shèng rèn), 能干 is an adjective that directly modifies nouns.
