Definition
脱困 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to get out of a difficult situation' or 'to overcome difficulties'. The verb 脱 ('to shed, to escape') and the noun 困 ('difficulty, hardship') can split when inserting aspect markers, complements, or measure words — e.g. 脱了困 ('got out of trouble'), 脱不了困 ('can't get out of trouble'). The object of the difficulty is usually introduced with 从…中 or implied by context.
