Definition

航天 (háng tiān) refers specifically to space flight — travel beyond Earth's atmosphere. This distinguishes it from 航空 (háng kōng), which is aviation within the atmosphere (air travel). While 航行 (háng xíng) is a general term for navigating (by air or sea) and 航海 (háng hǎi) is specifically sea navigation, 航天 is exclusively about outer space.
