Definition
节俭 (jié jiǎn) describes a person's habit or character of being frugal and not wasteful. Unlike the verb 节约 (jié yuē 'to save, economize'), which focuses on the action of conserving resources, 节俭 is a personal trait. It also differs from 实惠 (shí huì 'good value'), which describes a product or deal, and from 勤俭 (qín jiǎn 'hardworking and frugal'), which adds the element of diligence.
