Definition
获利 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to obtain profit' or 'to make a gain'. The verb 获 and the object 利 can be separated: you can insert aspect markers (了, 过) or measure words between them — e.g. 获了利 ('made a profit'), 获过一次利 ('got a profit once'). The object 利 can also be modified: 获了大利 ('made a big profit'). Use it in business and investment contexts.
