菩 (pú) is a bound morpheme that only appears in Buddhist compounds. It has no independent meaning in modern Chinese. You will encounter it in 菩萨 (pú sà, 'bodhisattva') and 菩提 (pú tí, 'bodhi' — enlightenment). When writing or reading, always treat 菩 as part of these two-character terms.
