Definition
落选 is a separable verb meaning "to fail to be elected" or "to lose a competition." Like other 离合词, the syllables can split when inserting time, measure words, or result complements: e.g., 落过一次选 (luò guò yí cì xuǎn, "once lost an election"). It is the opposite of 当选 (dāngxuǎn, "to be elected"). In its unsplit form, it behaves as a single verb taking no direct object.
