Definition
虚伪 (xūwěi) means 'hypocritical' — it describes a person or behavior that pretends to have higher standards or feelings than they really do. Unlike 假 (jiǎ, 'fake, false'), which applies to objects or statements, 虚伪 is about insincere character. 虚假 (xūjiǎ) is closer but focuses on factual falseness (e.g., false information), while 虚伪 targets personal pretense.
