Definition
行当 is a colloquial noun for a person's trade, profession, or line of business — slightly more informal than 职业 or 行业. It also has a specialized meaning in traditional Chinese opera (京剧 etc.), where it refers to the role-type classification (e.g., 生 male lead, 旦 female lead, 净 painted-face, 丑 clown). Be careful not to confuse 行当 with 行业 (industry) or 职业 (occupation); 行当 has a more informal, craft-like feel.
