让 (ràng) is a common HSK 2 verb that can mean 'to let, allow, or make (someone do something)'. Its 'allow' sense is more colloquial than the formal 允许 (HSK 4) or 准许 (HSK 7). 让 also functions as a colloquial preposition meaning 'by' in passive sentences, less formal than 被 (bèi).
