Definition
记事 is a separable verb (离合词, v.o.) meaning 'to record events' or 'to keep a record/remember what happens'. It can be split: the verb 记 and the object 事 may take measure words or aspect markers between them, e.g. 记了一件事 ('recorded one thing') or 记过很多事 ('have recorded many things'). The fixed expression 从我记事起 means 'ever since I can remember', where 记事 means 'to have memory/be able to remember'.
