Definition
诧异 describes being astonished or flabbergasted, often at something unexpected and puzzling. It is more formal and literary than 惊讶 (jīng yà), and less intense than 震惊 (zhèn jīng 'shocked'). Unlike 惊奇 (jīng qí), which implies wonder, 诧异 emphasizes bewilderment.
