Definition
说是 is used to report hearsay or second-hand information, like 'be said to' or 'they say that'. You often see it at the start of a sentence to frame what follows as unconfirmed or attributed to others. It can introduce a noun phrase or a whole clause, and carries a tone of uncertainty similar to 'supposedly'.
