Definition
诽谤 (fěi bàng) is the formal, often legal term for 'to slander/libel' — making false statements that harm someone's reputation. It is more serious and written than 毁 (huǐ) 'to defame' (which also means 'to destroy') and 污蔑 (wū miè) 'to smear', which are more colloquial and emphasize malicious accusation.
