谅解 (liàng jiě) — to understand and forgive; to make allowances for (someone's situation or mistake)

Definition

谅解 combines understanding with forgiveness — use it for mutual concessions in a conflict, as in 互相谅解. 体谅 is one-sided empathy for someone's feelings; 理解 is neutral comprehension with no forgiveness.
