谅解 (liàngjiě) means 'to understand and forgive' — it focuses on pardoning someone's mistake or difficult situation. It goes further than 理解 (lǐjiě 'understand'), which doesn't imply forgiveness, and is more about letting go of blame than 体谅 (tǐliàng 'show consideration'), which emphasizes empathy for feelings.
