Definition
走神 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to be absent-minded' or 'to have one's mind wander'. You can insert time or frequency words between 走 and 神, like 走了神 ('got distracted') or 走过一次神 ('was distracted once'). The person who is distracted is the subject, and 走神 does not take a direct object — just say 他走神了 ('He spaced out').
