Definition
走调 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to be out of tune' when singing or playing an instrument. You can insert elements between the two characters, such as 走了调 (went out of tune) or 走了一个半调 (went a semitone flat). It's commonly used with 唱歌 or 弹琴 to describe pitch errors.
