Definition
越狱 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to escape from prison' or 'to break out of jail'. The verb 越 and the noun 狱 can split when you add a measure word, duration, or complement in between — for example: 越了三次狱 ('broke out three times'), 越不了狱 ('can't break out'). Don't put the number or complement after the whole word; it goes between the syllables. The word is also the title of the famous TV series 'Prison Break', but that is a proper noun.
