Definition
跌 (diē) is the general verb for 'to fall' — used when a person falls down (跌倒) or when prices/temperatures drop (价格跌了). It contrasts with 滚 (gǔn) 'to roll, tumble' (emphasising a rolling motion) and 绊 (bàn) 'to trip' (the act of catching your foot on something). For market declines, the compound 下跌 (xiàdiē) is also common.
