转动 (zhuàn dòng) means 'to rotate, to revolve, to turn' around an axis, like turning a doorknob or the Earth orbiting the Sun. It is more specific to rotation than 转 (zhuàn), which can also mean 'to stroll' or 'to change direction'. 旋转 (xuán zhuǎn) is more formal and implies continuous spinning, while 转动 is the everyday verb for rotating an object.
