返 is a formal verb meaning 'to return (to a place)'. In everyday speech, learners are much more likely to use 回来 (come back) or 回去 (go back). 返 appears mainly in written or formal contexts, and in compounds like 返回 (to return), 往返 (round trip), and 返程 (return journey). It is not separable.
