还债 (huán zhài) is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to repay a debt'. You can split the two syllables to insert complements, durations, or frequency: 还了债 (paid off the debt), 还完债 (finished repaying), 还两次债 (repay twice). Note that 还 here is pronounced huán (to return/pay back), not the adverb hái (still/also).
