追溯 (zhuīsù) means 'to trace back to' a source or origin, often used in formal or written contexts for history, traditions, or causes. Unlike 追 (zhuī), which is 'to chase' something moving or 'to pursue' a goal, and 追踪 (zhuīzōng), which is 'to track' a specific target (like a suspect or signal), 追溯 focuses on going backward in time to find the beginning of something abstract.
