Definition
郊外 (jiāo wài) refers to the outskirts or the area on the edge of a city, often with a natural, less developed feel (fields, forests). It differs from 郊区 (jiāo qū, suburban district), which is an administrative term for a developed suburban area with housing and infrastructure. 野外 (yě wài) means 'wilderness' or 'open country' and is far from any city.
