酒精 (jiǔ jīng) is the chemical substance alcohol (ethanol), used for disinfection, fuel, etc. It is NOT the same as 酒 (jiǔ), which refers to alcoholic beverages like beer, wine, or liquor, or 白酒 (bái jiǔ), a specific distilled Chinese spirit. Think of 酒精 as the pure ingredient, not the drink itself.
