采访 (cǎi fǎng) is the verb journalists use to interview a person or cover a news event. Unlike 面试 (miàn shì), which is a job interview, or 访问 (fǎng wèn), which can mean visiting a place or person, 采访 focuses specifically on news gathering. 访谈 (fǎng tán) is also an interview but suggests a more formal back-and-forth discussion.
