Definition
阿修罗 (āsūra) is a loanword from Sanskrit (asura) used in Buddhist cosmology to refer to a class of beings often translated as 'titans' or 'demigods.' Unlike the English word 'demon,' asuras are not inherently evil — they are powerful, prideful beings who constantly fight the gods (devas) due to their jealousy. The term appears in Buddhist scriptures and is one of the six realms of rebirth (六道).
