Definition
除草 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to weed' or 'to remove weeds'. The verb 除 and the object 草 can split when you add aspect markers (了, 过), duration phrases, or measure words between them. For example: 除了草 ('weeded'), 除过草 ('have weeded before'), 除了一上午草 ('weeded all morning'). You cannot put a separate object after 除草 because 草 is already the object.
