Expressing "a bit too"
Use this pattern to comment that something is a little too much of a quality. It often implies mild dissatisfaction with negative adjectives, or indicates a change of state with positive ones.
Structure
Adj. + 了(一)点儿
With negative adjectives, expresses dissatisfaction; with positive adjectives, indicates a change.
Examples
- 这条牛仔裤好像短了点儿。Zhè tiáo niú zǎi kù hǎo xiàng duǎn le diǎn r.This pair of jeans seems a little short for me.
- 你管得是不是多了点儿?Nǐ guǎn dé shì bu shì duō le diǎn r?Don't you think you're getting a little too involved?
- 私立学校是贵了点儿,不过老师很优秀。Sī lì xué xiào shì guì le diǎn r, bú guò lǎo shī hěn yōu xiù.Private schools are a little expensive, but the teachers are excellent.
- 你这么高,你这个男朋友是不是矮了点儿?Nǐ zhè me gāo, nǐ zhè ge nán péng you shì bu shì ǎi le diǎn r?You are so tall. Isn't your boyfriend a little short for you?
- 对五岁的孩子来说,这个问题稍微复杂了一点儿。Duì wǔ suì de hái zi lái shuō, zhè ge wèn tí shāo wēi fù zá le yì diǎn r.This question is just a bit complicated for a five-year-old child.
