Expressing a last chance with 再不... 就...

Use 再不...就... to express that if you don't do something now, a negative consequence will follow. It combines urgency with a conditional 'if not... then...' meaning. Be careful not to forget 再, as omitting it changes the meaning to a simple negation.

Structure

Subj. + 再不 + [Action] + 就 + [Consequence] + (了)
The action after 再不 is urgent; the consequence is usually undesirable.

Examples

  • 再不走,我叫保安了。
    Nǐ zài bù zǒu, wǒ jiù jiào bǎoān le.
    If you don't leave now, I'm going to call security.
  • 再不走我们开会要迟到了。
    Zài bù zǒu wǒmen kāihuì jiù yào chídào le.
    If we don't leave now, we will be late for our meeting.
  • 再不努力,你会被淘汰。
    Nǐ zài bù nǔlì, nǐ jiù huì bèi táotài.
    If you don't start working hard, you're going to get eliminated.
  • 火车快开了,再不检票来不及了。
    Huǒchē kuài kāi le, zài bù jiǎnpiào jiù láibují le.
    The train is about to leave! If we don't get our tickets checked now, we're not going to make it.
  • 再不学习,下个月没有生活费了。
    Nǐ zài bù xuéxí, xià gè yuè jiù méiyǒu shēnghuófèi le.
    If you don't study, you won't have an allowance to live on next month.
