Expressing double negation

To stress that a situation is not because of a negative reason, use 不是 directly before a negated verb or adjective (不/没 + predicate). This pattern often clarifies misunderstandings. Be careful not to omit the second negation, or the meaning becomes a simple statement.

To express that something is impossible not to happen, place 不 before a modal verb like 会, 能, or 可能, followed by another negation (不/没) and the predicate. This creates a forceful double negation. Common mistake: forgetting to include the second negation, which changes the meaning entirely.

Structure

Subj. + 不是 + 不 / 没 + Predicate
