Expressing "everything" with 什么 都
Use 什么 followed by 都 (or sometimes 也) after a topic to mean "everything" about that topic. Make sure a topic is included, otherwise the sentence may become a question or mean "anything".
Structure
Topic (+ Subj.) + 什么 + 都 / 也 + Verb / Adj.
都 is more common than 也; the subject after the topic is optional.
Examples
- 我觉得这里的菜什么都好吃。Wǒ juéde zhèlǐ de cài shénme dōu hǎochī.I think everything is delicious here.
- 中国的历史爸爸什么都知道。Zhōngguó de lìshǐ bàba shénme dōu zhīdào.My dad knows everything about Chinese history.
- 工作的事情老公什么都跟我说。Gōngzuò de shìqing lǎogōng shénme dōu gēn wǒ shuō.My husband tells me everything about work stuff.
- 妈妈做的菜我什么都喜欢。Māma zuò de cài wǒ shénme dōu xǐhuan.I like everything that mom cooks.
- 我女朋友觉得外国的东西什么都好。Wǒ nǚpéngyou juéde wàiguó de dōngxi shénme dōu hǎo.My girlfriend thinks that all foreign things are good.
