Expressing "if… then…" with 假使

假使 is a formal conjunction meaning 'if' or 'supposing that.' It pairs with 就 in the result clause to express 'if... then...'. Note that 假使 is typically used in written or formal contexts, not everyday speech.

Structure

假使 + Statement, + 就 + Result
Often seen in written Chinese; the condition clause ends with a comma, and 就 introduces the consequence.

  • 假使明天下雨,我不去上班了。
    Jiǎshǐ míngtiān xià yǔ, wǒ jiù bù qù shàngbān le.
