Expressing "the more... the more..." with 越…越…

Use 越...越... to express that two things increase or decrease in parallel, like "the more... the more..." in English. Typically, verb phrases follow each 越, but an adjective is common after the second 越. This structure is very flexible and widely used in spoken Chinese.

Structure

Subj. + 越 + Verb Phrase 1 ,越 + Verb Phrase 2 / Adj.
the second 越 is frequently followed by an adjective
