Expressing "to be worth" doing with 值得
Place 值得 before a verb or verb phrase to say that something is worth doing. You can negate it by adding 不 before 值得. Be careful not to use 值得 directly with adjectives or nouns without a following verb.
Structure
值得 + Verb / Verb Phrase
Negate with 不: 不值得 + Verb / Verb Phrase.
Examples
- 巴金的散文很值得一看。Bā jīn de sǎn wén hěn zhí dé yí kàn.Ba Jin's prose deserves a look.
- 虽然不容易，但是值得去尝试。Suī rán bù róng yì, dàn shì zhí dé qù cháng shì.It's not easy, but it's worth a try.
- 雷锋助人为乐的精神值得我们学习。Léi fēng zhù rén wéi lè de jīng shén zhí dé wǒ men xué xí.The spirit of altruism merits some study.
- 这件小事不值得你担心。Zhè jiàn xiǎo shì bù zhí dé nǐ dān xīn.This little thing isn't worth your time.
- 这个房子不值得投资。Zhè ge fáng zi bù zhí dé tóu zī.This house is not worth investing in.
