Special verbs with 很

In Chinese, some psychological verbs can be directly modified by 很 (hěn) to express intensity, like 'really' or 'very much' in English. Only certain verbs related to feelings or emotions allow this, such as 想, 喜欢, 怕, etc.

Structure

Subj. + 很 + [Psychological Verb]
Used with verbs related to feelings or emotions to express 'very much' or 'really'.

Examples

  • 我很想你。
    Wǒ hěn xiǎng nǐ.
    I really miss you.
  • 他很喜欢你。
    Tā hěn xǐhuan nǐ.
    He really likes you.
  • 你应该很小心。
    Nǐ yīnggāi hěn xiǎoxīn .
    You should be very careful.
  • 我很怕晚上一个人在家。
    Wǒ hěn pà wǎnshang yīgèrén zài jiā.
