Definition
上楼 means 'to go upstairs'. It is a separable verb (离合词): the verb 上 and the object 楼 can be split to insert measure words, aspects, or duration, like 上了一层楼 ('went up one floor'). You don't need a separate object after 上楼 because 楼 itself is the object. The opposite is 下楼 ('to go downstairs').
