Definition
下定决心 is a verb-object phrase (离合词) meaning 'to make a firm decision' or 'to be determined'. It can be separated: the verb 下 can take aspect markers or complements, and the object 决心 can be modified, as in 下定了决心 ('had made up one's mind') or 下不了决心 ('can't bring oneself to decide').
