Definition
仕 (shì) is a bound form (b.f.) meaning 'to serve as an official'. It cannot be used alone as a verb; it appears in classical/literary compounds such as 仕途 'official career' and 仕官 'official'. In modern Mandarin, the equivalent standalone verb is 做官 or 当官.
