Definition
割 (gē) means 'to cut' with a blade or sharp tool, and also figuratively to sever ties. It differs from 断 (duàn 'to break, snap'), which doesn't imply a blade, and from 绝 (jué 'to cut off completely, vanish'), which is more extreme and often used for extinction or absolute cutoff. 割 is the everyday verb for cutting with a knife, scissors, etc.
