劫 (jié) means to rob, plunder, or seize by force, and also to coerce. It is a versatile verb often appearing in compounds like 抢劫 (rob) and 劫持 (hijack). Compared to 抢劫 (specifically robbery), 掠夺 (formal plunder), and 逼迫 (coerce without taking), 劫 covers both forceful taking and coercion.
