Definition
危急 (wēijí) describes a situation that is critically dangerous, often involving life-threatening risk (e.g., a patient's condition, a disaster). It is stronger than 紧急 (jǐnjí 'urgent'), which focuses on time pressure, and more specific than 严重 (yánzhòng 'serious'), which can describe any grave problem. Unlike 走投无路 (zǒutóuwúlù), which emphasizes having no escape, 危急 stresses the immediate danger itself.
