Definition
发射 (fāshè) is the technical verb for launching rockets, satellites, or missiles and for emitting signals or particles — it implies a directed outward projection. 射 (shè) is broader ('shoot, launch, allude'), while 释放 (shìfàng) means releasing something confined (gas, energy, a person); 射击 (shèjī) and 排放 (páifàng) are specific to firearms and waste discharge, respectively.
