Definition
发胖 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to gain weight' or 'to get fat'. The verb 发 separates from the result 胖 when inserting measure words, duration, or degrees: for example, 发了很多胖 ('gained a lot of weight'). You cannot put the measure word or time expression after the whole word — it must go between the two parts. It's commonly used in health or appearance contexts.
