Definition
受 (shòu) is a core verb that can mean 'receive' (positive, e.g., 受礼物 'receive a gift') or 'suffer' (negative, e.g., 受苦 'suffer'). It can also be placed before a verb to mean 'be...' (e.g., 受欢迎 'be popular'), but 被 (bèi) is more common for passive. For 'accept an offer' use 接受; for 'endure pressure' use 承受.
