Definition
后 (hòu) means 'back' or 'after', but it is a bound word — it must follow a noun (e.g., 课后 'after class'). To say 'behind' or 'afterwards' on its own, use 后面 (hòu miàn) for location or 以后 (yǐ hòu) for time.
